What is "a long time"?  I think the time frame for a power upgrade is 
knocking at Mazda's door.  Hate to bring up the S2000 but that's the 
impetus for Mazda to make the Miata at least a 190 hp car of the show 
room floor.  But, the oft and rightly cited increases in insurance and 
increase in price don't favor a higher output Miata.  The market for 
sports cars in the low end monetary range.  These aren't SUV's with 
leather afterall.  

Funny thing is Mazda might have an answer in MazdaSpeed.  Instead of 
making a Miata with forced induction out of the factory, they could 
offer it as a dealer installed option through MazdaSpeed.  That way the 
average joe could get into a powerful Miata without having to research 
the aftermarket.
