Well, if you listen to Click and Clack on NPR, they'll tell
you that while Honda makes some great cars, they don't
pre-treat their metal as well as Toyota and other Japanese
manufacturers, and therefore they rust out faster and worse
than the others. Based on what I see here in Utah where we
have the snow, ice, and salty roads, they appear to be
right. Nearly every older Accord sedan around here has a
seriously rusted trunk lid, particularly the "lip" that
"wraps" around above the license plate.
My 1986 Camry went 140,000 miles in 11 years and had
virtually no rust on it. While its Honda peers were
generally very rusty.
I'm not flaming you Honda owners-- I have an old Civic in
the driveway waiting for a daughter to start driving. I'm
just relating my personal experience.
