Speaking as only one M1 owner...
Whether I ever trade in my Miata (doubtful) or buy a M2 Miata has
absolutely nothing to do with Ford's participation in Mazda. Those out in
the ether who bad mouth Ford or portend the coming gloom and doom of Ford
participation in Mazda are myopic at best or blindly prejudiced at worst.
Ford's track record with Jaguar, Aston Martin, and (even) Mazda (today)
demonstrates an awareness of WHAT they are, what markets they service, what
their strengths are, and what the customer wants. If anything, the Ford
participation may put more emphasis on the niche products... Miata, RX7,
etc... as the rest of the line fights against standard Ford fare....
My only fear is that governmental regulations will so drastically override
what the market can do on it's own that niche markets become
unserviceable... in wheich case a totally independant Mazda might still
have to abandon a Miata of RX7...
