You're right. It is magically attached at the front. There
are two barbed fasteners, one on each side that hold it to
the center trim piece. You have to pull real hard. Get
your fingers under one side and use your thumb to push on
the top of the center part at the edge. Do one side at a
time and don't just pull on the bottom because when it does
pop loose you'll keep going and then you will break
something. Use you thumb like I said, and it will keep you
from breaking the console when it pops loose.
Now a favor. When you get the console out, if you do not
have power windows will you check and see if the power
window connector is still there. It will be a white
connector about 1-1/4" long attached with a loom tie into
the bottom of the ashtray.
Let me know, and I hope this helps.

Subject: 1999 center console
I was trying to remove the center console today and could
not get it loose.
I removed the 2 screws on the sides near the shifter, the 2
inside the
console, and the 1 under the ashtry. It seems to have some
attachment up
front, below the deathbag switch & cigarette lighter panel.
Is there anyone
who has done this and can help?
My thanks to Bill Allen & Jeff Gehrig- the horns & CB are
installed!
