Num,

It's actually a "shock brace" as the Miata has no struts.  Being picky but
hey.  ;-)  About the mounting points, they mount to the bolts AROUND the top
of the shock, two I think.  That's why the bases of the braces are round, to
go around that black plastic thing in the middle.
