Mark,

I've successfully advanced my timming without any
real problems.
I printed out ALL of the "how to's" from the
miata.net and any
links to other pages and then basically follwed
the steps.  I did
end up using the "yellow" mark as diagramed in
Harry's page.

The colors in the picture are BETTER then what was
on my
car!  I had to get a flash light out and shine it
down in there
just to make sure I wasn't going snow blind from
the red paint ;-)

Someone on the list once had absoultey nothing
better to do and
hooked up some fancy oscilloscope to his car.
According to
his findings there is some sort of dual firing
(pulse?) scheme on our
ignitions.  Is it possible your having problems
with the kind of
timing light your using?
