Miataphiles:

	Today is a BLACK day!

		KNOBzilla smashed!

Guess who did it!

ME!

Sh*t!

Tonight I was doing a brake job on MUDmagnet and after I was done, I
backed out the garage in the dark and ran smack into my Miata!

			I want to CRY!

Luckily only the driver's side turn signal light is destroyed and a
minor set of dings on the bumper and one little nick over the wheel
well where the extra gas tank hit. Could have been worse! Did not get
the hood or any major dings on the fender!

I feel like a damn fool!

Now I need advice as to where I should get a replacement turn signal
assembly. Mazmart? PBC? Local dealer? HELP! How much?

Well I guess it's time to fix all the minor dings I've accumulated over
these 7 years. RATS!

MUDmagnet only lost a HELLA 550 driving light that points to the rear!
Any other scratches just adds character to that four wheeler!

Boy do I feel BAD! Well at least I can spiff her up so she can look
pretty for Dallas! IT'S NOT WHAT I PLANNED TO DO THIS WEEK! But I
guess that's life! At least no one was hurt and it just cosmetic, but it
doesn't make the hurt go away.

I guess I'll make a double Hi-Ball and then hit the sack and face my
problem after a little sleep!

Fix one problem ........... make another! )*&^*)&%(%$#@@@!!!!!!

Sincere condolences Joe

I personally wrecked a very good Mazda 626GT of mine a couple of years
back. I felt like such a sh*t then, but if I'd do that to my Miata...

I vote with Pete - would love to do it, if only if was close to Deal's Gap
time, and rollbars weren't required, at least in the sorta slow newbie
class....

It's a bit of a drive for me  :-}

At any rate - best of luck with the plans - sounds fantastic.

Correct. I've been in the "service" end of business most of my
life, from Motorcycle Shop Service Manager to (now for 18+ years)
computers/networking (probably next to automatic transmission
repair shops as an industry where some true "sharks" can prey on
unwitting consumers), so I've seen much of both ends of it.

> But to publicly proclaim to the
>effect of "I showed that customer a thing or two.. anybody else want

And why not? Doesn't the vendor have any rights other than to
"shut up and take it" until the person who's already *threatened*
to "go public" does so, and then try to defend your position?
Sometimes a good offence is the best defense.

I had a somewhat similar thing happen to the computer shop I was
working for many years back. We ran a BBS at the shop for free
for anyone who cared to call it. It participated in Fidonet
e-mail network both locally and internationally, and there was a
lot of "local chat" areas concerning differing subjects...a lot
like here on the list, some heated or spirited debates raged
sometimes, but pretty decent overall. One of the local
participants (with whom I'd had some heated "differences of
opinion" with on political issues on the message boards) decided
to buy his new modem from us. No problem, I can agree to disagree
and I'll still buy you a beer and we can be friends...or so I
thought.

28.8k modems had just started hitting the shelves and demand was
high. Everyone was eagerly awaiting the next shipments of
USRobotics Sportsters we were due to get in. We got in 20 of
them, and immediately opened one and installed it into our "test
mule". It was DOA. Pulled another...DOA. Finally got one good out
of 6 we ended up opening by then. Called USR and they said that a
bunch of modem left with the wrong ROM installed...no problem,
send the bad units back, etc. We ended up with 4 good out of 20.

This "friend" comes in to buy his, having called us previously
in the day to confirm we did receive the shipment. We explained
to him that we just had opened and tested every one of the 20 we
got and had (by then) 2 left to sell. He bought one and paid with
a personal check.

Three days later, on the message boards, I made a comment (not
directed at him) on some political item and I get back from him
this diatribe about how he'd never buy anything from us again,
seeing as how we sold him a "used" modem for a new price and he
was only buying from us to "help a struggling small business" and
that he could have bought it somewhere else for a lower price
anyway. (Things which were false, false, and false, as no one
else within a 70 mile radius had ever received *any* to sell.)

I explained in a reply (public to all, as his "accusation" was
made that way) of what we did, why, and by opening the box we
saved him a trip home only to be very frustrated and having to
make a return trip, etc. His reply got even nastier (once again,
in a public forum), and started to get personal...making
references to my choices of friends, etc. I had enough and
decided to shut him down...his personal check had bounced for the
thing he was bitching about.

When his last reply ended with he's telling all his friends
never to do business with us and he'd never stoop so low as to
buy from us again, I replied that since his check had bounced, I
didn't want his business, but I would appreciate his picking up
his bad check and bringing cash.

I got swamped with (private) e-mail over this little attack.
Only around 5 of the 100 or so replies I got were chastising me
for revealing his bounced check to the world as somehow
"unethical". Most were congratulations for putting the jerk in
his place. Some were inquiries about purchasing a modem when we
got some more stock in...

> Every business will
>have that 1% of customers that will be totally ignorant of common sense but
>that does not justify letting everyone know you slammed them.

If the customer has already made the threat that they're going
public, why should you, I, or Tommy wait to reply? This was the
forum the "customer" chose, and Tommy merely met his challenge
head on. Have we seen our customer yet?

I've known Tommy since his days at Roebuck, and he's a straight
shooter. I'll continue to do business with him. So what if he's
"feisty" with it? He's got a right, as the customer is trying to
use the court of public opinion to somehow perpetrate a
fraudulent claim.

Some people who have a forceful nature and handle every
encounter with another person with an attack and intimidation are
often those who retailers hate to have to handle...the one who
yells and screams in the showroom is one most would just rather
"pay off" to shut them up than try to deal with them on their
level. Tommy (perhaps) and myself occasionally like to win a few
of these. :)

This kind of stuff happened a *lot* in the computer industry
against the "mass merchant" stores who sell computers but who
have no tech. support on-staff. Buy a computer system, take it
home, remove the RAM, the CPU, and hard drive and box it back up
and demand a refund because "it doesn't work". By the time the
retailer ships it back to the manufacturer and the theft
discovered, the credit has long been issued and the perpetrator
has vanished. More stores now have at least one person who can
check for missing/stolen parts now or else they place a time
limit on how fast a customer can obtain a refund on large
purchases.

Just bought one of the airboxes last Sat. Cost AUD$385. They may be around
cheaper but I didn't bother looking. The instructions say "Note: If A/C
fitted the metal tubing can be bent gently out of the way of hole and airbox
with hand pressure, before drilling hole." I don't have air but I presume
that refers to the tubing that runs along the firewall.

Hey guys,in Germany the M1 (every German spec.) model was equipped with
coloured rear mudflaps. Only US and Canadian imports came without them.
Some of the people I know dismantled them for a better appearance of
their car.

Belgian spec. (like mine) came additionally with front mudflaps as
standard which were also in the same colour as the car itself. I have
the rear ones mounted all seasons since they prevent the rear bumper
form beeing chipped. In winter or automn I use to mount the front
guards, too as in Germany a lot of gravel is used against ice.
Unless the the guards are mounted properly (all 3 srews should be
fastened tightly) they should stand some snow and ice. But I have to
admit that in Germany the snow conditions are not as severe as in
Iceland :-)

Take care,

Christoph

A few times, yes.

The full kit should provide a nice increase.

Not sure when I'll get a chance to have the airbox fitted. I'll need to have
an elbow made up for fitting with the turbo. Just had a look at the fit and
it's going to be tight. Should work well. The intake and outlet for the
airbox must be about 3"
