Subject:Mtn View Dyno Day SUMMARY
Date: Tue, 2 Feb 1999 13:50:57 -0500

On Saturday, January 30, a small but dedicated group of us descended
upon Frey Racing to play with their DynoJet. In attendance were:

Bill Lackey, '95 M-Edition w/full JR breathing
Eric "Keman" Uratchko, '90 Mustang LX 5.0 w/lotsa bolt-ons
Ian "Codrus" McCloghrie, '99 Leather Package bone stock
Jason "Phyxis" Mills, '99 Durango SLT+ 5.9 bone stock
Toby Weir-Jones, '96 Leather Package turbo

Each of the cars and its results are detailed below. All reported
figures are SAE corrected.

Bill Lackey
-----------
'95 M-Edition w/full JR breathing:
--JR CAI
--JR headers
--JR cat
--JR cat-back exhaust

Max Power 109.4
Max Torque 105.5

We tried switching plugs from some rather tired Splitfires to a new set
of the Bosch +4 Platinum plugs you may have seen advertised. Didn't
make a whit of difference, though it was discovered that the middle two
cylinders were burning hot enough to scar the old splitfires.

Eric Uratchko
-------------
'90 Ford Mustang LX 5.0 with a whole bunch of bolt-ons. See
http://pages.prodigy.net/keman for the whole story.

Max Power 230.6
Max Torque 278.2

Eric's Mustang makes loud scary noises and has far too many cylinders.
We worried it might pull the DynoJet out of the floor. Retarding the
timing from 10 to 14 degrees BTDC was good for ~4 horsepower to the
wheels.

Ian McCloghrie
--------------
Bone-stock '99 Miata

Max Power 108.0
Max Torque 106.5

Next time we might feed Ian's car racing gas and see if the computer is
smart enough to retard the timing a bit and get a little more power.

Jason Mills
-----------
Bone-stock '99 Durango SLT+ 5.9

Max Power 186.7
Max Torque 261.3

Testing big ol' trucks with automatics is a different kind of challenge,
but at least we didn't have any problem finding places to attach the
holding straps. We pulled the air filter off for the final runs and the
truck emitted an almighty induction roar. Just about sucked my watch
off my wrist.

Toby Weir-Jones
---------------
'96 Miata, intercooled Bell System 1 turbo, 6psi, stock ECU, MSD
ignition retard, fuel control via Bell AFPR

Max Power 164.7
Max Torque 158.3

Peak torque @ 5000rpm, peak power @ 6400rpm. I was very pleasantly
surprised by this result--I expected quite a bit less. With the cool
air at Frey, the uncorrected power was 170.9, torque was 162.7.

Later that afternoon, with help from the guys at Dyno Day, we installed
my new fuel injectors & FM ECU. Since my car is a '96 there are some
teething problems, but once it's sorted out, I'll go back and do another
6psi run, then start increasing the boost...

Anyway thanks to all for participating!
