I worked for 10 years for a research institute located at a large state
mental hospital, and I never met a psychiatrist who wasn't crazy--I mean
actually psychotic. I used to have a neighbor who was a new M.D. from
India, looking for a hospital residency in the USA; the only ones he
could find were in psychiatry, which he refused because it was widely
believed *by medical students* that if one weren't crazy already,
becoming a pshrynk would clinch the deal. Psychologists, OTOH, are all
merely neurotic--every one I ever met entered the field as a self-help
move. At least the Ph.D.s were up-front about it--the M.D.s thought,
pathetically, that they were gods.
