All are welcome on the "Snake" run scheduled for 4/17/99. I need a good
estimate of the number that will attend so if you'd like to come and have not
notified me yet, please do so within the next week. If I do not respond to
your email within a few days please call me at (864) 292-3830 as it will mean
I'm traveling and away from the computer. Leave your name and a return number
where you can be reached if you have questions or the number in your party if
you just want to let me know you'll be there. So far we have definite
confirmations from Miataphiles in SC, GA, FL, TN, and VA. Also some folks
working the RA races that day plan on meeting us for dinner at the winery.
The more the merrier and you will not be disappointed with the twists and
turns we'll be traveling. :) Below is the scheduled itinerary:
Date: Saturday, April 17th
Foothills meets: 8:30 AM to depart no later than 9:00 AM
at the Hardees at the intersection of I-85 and Hwy 153
Group meets: 11:30 AM at the Square in Dahlonega, GA
park at the bank or by the Gold Museum around the square
walk to the Welcome Center (facilities available)
Lunch: 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM
bring a picnic lunch and eat in the square or stop and grab
something at one of the local area restaurants
Group run: leave the square at 12:30 PM to run the "Snake"
we'll take a photo at Lake Winifred Scott and probably stop at one
of the observation areas/look outs
Note: there is a $2 park fee
Roundup: we'll meet back at the square at 2:00 PM
take a facilities break and hope to all be on the road again by
2:30 PM (we will wait for stragglers, but I believe this has
already allotted enough time for such)
Winery Tour: We will arrive at Chateau Elan at 3:30 PM
(Road Atlanta is 5 minutes down the road for anyone who's never
been)
If sufficient numbers, we'll break up into two groups for the winery
tour and wine tasting
Note: the last public tour is at 5:00 PM
Dinner: 5:30 PM Patty's Irish Pub on the Chateau Elan grounds
Entrees vary from $6.95 - $9.95 per person (non-inclusive of
beverage, tax, tip, etc.)
they do have a full bar....but please use discretion and only drink
if you are not driving
of course nonalcoholic beverages are available
Return "home": 7:00 PM leave from Chateau Elan for home....wherever that may
be
That puts the Greenville folks back home at 9:00 PM
Everyone is welcome for the whole trip or the portions they can attend...again
I just need numbers of attendees and if only doing a portion of the trip
please specify the leg you'll join. Greenville folks will need a full tank of
gas for the day, a minimum of 1/2 a tank at the Hardees starting point. I'm
recommending our folks pack a picnic lunch then we won't hold up the locals
while we stop into a restaurant, but that option is still open. This is not a
trip for passengers who get car sick easily, but there are things to do in
town if you'd like to bring a G-force intolerant mate (shops, panning for
gold, Gold Museum, etc.) or you can always drive at the back of the line r-e-
a-l slow on the curves. All will have a set of printed directions and
therefore can go at their own pace through the loop back to the square. We
will attempt to line the cars up into spirited/leisurely/scenic drive groups
to facilitate the trip. Y'all come out and have some fun on the twisites!!!
See you there.
