Once they start to go there isn't much that will make them look new again. 
The material degrades and you can't put it back.

What I did was just replace the pieces.  IIRC, Roebuck has them for about
$35 each, and they literally snap into place.  Be careful until you figure
out how it works, but it took me about 10 minutes to do both sides, and the
new pieces look great, makes the car look like new.
