On my oil temperature gauge, which works from a sensor in the oil pan
drain plug, it takes a LONG TIME for the oil to get up to full
temperature. 10-15 minutes of normal driving. Also I've noticed that the
oil temperature varies quite a bit depending on the kind of driving
being done. Most of the time it stays way down on the low end (around
160 degrees F), but if you run the engine fast on a warm day it moves up
higher pretty readily. I guess this is because there's no thermostat.
