Thanks to all who helped me out in the past few hours while I decided
whether or not to get the Miata '91. The VIN number suggestions were a real
help too. I also did a VIN check with Carfax online which told me there were
a LOT of LIENS on this car in it's earlier years. According to my insurance
agent though, if I go to the bank tonight and get the ORIGINAL owner papers
then it's mine no matter what.
You may have gauged by my tone that I am set on buying it. I got one quote
so far for new window ($200) and a $195 quote (parts and lab.) for the
timing belt from the local Mazda dealer. Seemed VERY cheap!
Anyway, like I was saying, now I'm just waiting for this guy to get back
from work and call me. I never slept much last night at all. How come I
never felt this way 4 weeks ago when I picked up my '99 Jetta with 0000miles
on the clock? Strange, huh. I managed to talk Wife round regards the car and
she's well up for it now. I suppose it's always what i wanted and now I'm
getting one. For me that's unbelievable. I remember getting a 24 hour test
drive in the new Ford Escort back in 1990 and taking it down the west coast
of Scotland for the day and how an MX-5 overtook me on a country road. I
felt sooooooooo jealous that I would NEVER have such a car. Well, here I am
now, two years too late regarding being married and such to enjoy the car TO
THE FULL (wink wink) but I must say that when I get bed tonight I will feel
pretty pleased with myself.
No doubt I'll have many questions in the next few weeks as I get to know my
new baby that has been christened THE RANGER!!! Work that out!!! Clue: it's
blue.
