Think of it as an "arming" switch. There are times that you absolutely,
positively do not want CC to engage accidentally; plus, once set, there's
no way to turn it back off except with the ignition key. I'm not so sure
it needs to be a momentary switch, though--my Accord has a
push-on-push-off switch for the same purpose, that even changes color
when enabled. But then Mazda was never as smart as Honda, it just has
more soul.
