        The big problem is [in my experience] it doesn't work. I went to 
Castrol 5W50 all-synth for that very reason and the startup clatter 
magically went away. [Incidentally, that pre-sopping the new oil filter 
is an old-wives tale, in my observation. I still had clatter on the 
initial startup.] 

        Unfortunately, it came back after a thousand miles or so just as 
it always did with dino oil. It seems that new oil, or a new oil filter, 
or both is the only answer for MisteRedd. But I'm not prepared to change 
his oil and filter every freakin' thousand miles. Although, maybe I 
should prepare myself for that. He ain't gettin' no younger.
