I managed to put a scratch down to the primer on the nose of my '95 red
miata. After letting the touch up paint (mazda code SU) dry for a day I
sanded it down flush with the original paint. I tried to use 3M rubbing
compound (part no. 05973) to polish the roughed up area. The touch up
paint buffed right up but the original paint stayed dull. I tried
Meguiar's deep crystal system step 2 polish with my random orbital
buffer and all I did was wear the touch up paint down to where I'll have
to put some more on to cover the original scratch. It seems like the
paint on the nose is harder than the touch up paint. I didn't have this
problem on metal parts of the car. What am I doing wrong? Can anyone
make any suggestions about different products or touch up paint?
