Staring hard at the tiny pictures in the shop manual, it looks as if the
float is at the end of a long arm hinged from an assembly at the top of the
tank, and the pump/filter/pickup projects down rigidly, that is not hinged,
from the same assembly. The vulnerable bit seems to be the O-ring
connections on either side of the pump. The whole mess can be accessed from
beneath the rear package tray in the passenger compartment.
