I had something happen to my baby that sounds similar to what you have =
going on.  My mechanic got me under the car to show me that the heat =
shield just below the exhaust manifold/down pipe flange had cracks in =
it.  The splits were allowing the the heat shield to vibrate, causing =
the noise.  The mechanic and I placed a zebra clamp around the pipe, and =
no more noise!  Good luck!
