Peter,
I'm not sure of the name of the event, but we do host one round of
the World Rally Championship in Oz, Perth actually, in Western Australia, a
few years ago an MX-5/Miata was used as one of the official cars, running in
front of the competitors, the car was modified only by raising the
suspension height a little and adding a couple of skid plates underneath, to
protect vital components, the car I believe was driven by an ex-superstar
Rally Driver (these guys are talented beyond belief) who was full of praise
for the car and its' balance, something that we take for granted. These
days, it's the 4 wheel drive Toyota Corollas, Subaru Impreza WRX etc that
fight out the events, at speeds that most of us could not imagine on any
normal road and they're doing it on gravel and snow and ice and occasionally
on tarmac, they don't like tarmac because the Formula 2 Citroens (only 2
wheel drive) eat them for breakfast!

Sounds like a blast! Would love to try, but not in my
Miata ;-)
