According to http://www.courtave.net/~tschmidt/FAQ/FAQ.3rdGeneration.txt ,
there were approximately 500,000 5.0L Mustangs produced between 87 and 93.
Of course, they're almost all in North America, and that's wordwide Miata
production over 10 years :)
But the basic engine (which would be compatible with aftermarket headers,
for example) has been around since the Stone Age :) That body showed up
in 1979, too. The number of potiential North American customers just keeps
going up :)
If Miata parts prices bother you, feel free to go into business and make
your own. I'm sure you'll see the market differently at that point. And
don't buy things you feel are junk or overpriced - then they either
disappear or get cheaper.
