| Subject: | Advancing the timing on a 99 miata (help!!!) |
| Date: | Thu, 3 Jun 1999 09:55:41 -0400 |
I recently bought my first miata and I can't drive it enough. I'm going to
have to move soon so I can drive
future to work. :)
I just bought the miata performance handbook and it suggests advancing the
timing to 14 BTDC. The book
has wonderful pictures of pre 1999 models but they haven't helped.
Can someone please tell me how to find the camshaft timing angle sensor? and
where to find a 12 volt source
to connect the timing gun.
Please respond in laymen terms. Prior to buying this car, changing the oil
was considered a major accomplishment.
thanks,
Jonathan from NH
I've added the Racing Beat High flow air intake kit, a Borla exhaust, and
have replaced the stock thermostat with
160 degree thermostat (NAPA part #42 ) (as the Performance handbook
suggests).
Overall the car sounds great! But it does seem that the High flow air intake
from Racing Beat traded some low end power
for high end power.
P.S. I was so excited to do this I ran out and bought my first timing light
( I called it a gun, but the salesman corrected me :-)).
After much searching, I have returned the gun and made an appointment for
tomorrow (6-4-99)to have it done at a garage but I would
much prefer to be able to do this myself :)
