AFAIR, timing on the 99M2 can not be adjusted by tinkering with the
camshaft angle sensor. They have active knock sensors that should in theory
advance the timing as far as possible without pinging the engine. That is
one of the reason why a M2 engine put out more house power and torque than
the M1.
