Well, Gary Fischman broke a stock spring after about 8 years. I think that
counts as wearing out :)
This weekend, I'll be (hopefully) pulling the springs out of 338. I've
still got Baby's old springs, and I'm going to compare them carefully for
any visible difference. By the feel of the car, the springs on 338 have
softened up after 10 years and 130,000 km. Baby's had about 7 years and
75,000 km when I pulled them off. I'll probably put the newer set back on
the car when I'm done.
If you're putting on Konis and you don't want to firm up the ride, why
don't you find a set of used stock springs? There was a basically brand
new set sitting in the garbage bin at Miata World (along with a perfect
stock header and exhaust), and you should be able to find a set from
someone on the list who's moving to aftermarket springs.
