While I have the car up on jackstands with the rear wheels off, is 
there a quick test to see if the rear caliper "slide bolts", that I 
hear about so many times being frozen, aren't frozen?

I can grab the center of the brakes on the outer edge, and wiggle 
back and forth, such that the rotor exhibits its free-play on the 
axle (ie both pads are moving inboard and outboard in tandem) -sound 
OK?
