Dear The Badger:	
Sounds like a problem like my dad had a year ago. He went to one body shop 
and they said REPAINT $245. He went to another body shop and that guy said no 
problem I can cut and buff it out.  So he "cut it" and buffed it out for $35. 
 Could not tell it was ever marked.

If you want to do it yourself get some "fine" rubbing compound and gently 
follow directions on using it. Then wax over the area
