Actually there was a Miata that entered in the 1997 event. It was an
ex-SSC racer complete with hardtop. It did really well on one short track
(Second Creek in Colorado) but overall was not competitive in it's class (or
maybe it was just the drivers?).
I would think that only having two people on such a long event would
be tiring. Some of the other entries (M3, etc.) were able to take additional
drivers. I would think that would be the way to go. Some time ago I had
contemplated running a modified 318ti with a turbocharged M3 motor. Get 3
crazy friends to join me and have a blast. Unfortunately it didn't come to
pass for me but this year someone else did it and finished 3rd overall. 2700
lbs and 350+ horsepower = YEEEEHAAAWWW!!!!!
