Don,
One reason might be that in your country, if something goes wrong,
people sue everyone they can think of that might be involved. It's a
mentality that is starting to cause people in other countries to think twice
about conducting business with US companies. Instruction books/manuals etc.,
have to be couched in a language that virtually precludes the possibility of
any kind of law suit should some kind of failure occur in spite of the
failure/breakdown being caused by the failure of the purchaser to read the
instructions. Those of us in the "rest of the world" have to bear the cost
of all this anti-litigation rhetoric, frankly, we're getting a little
pissed.

All this talk about towing reminds me, that when I bought my 92 Miata, I
towed it on on of those rental car dollies about 200 miles to it's new home.
At my first rest stop, had a "D'oh !" experience when I read in the manual
where it specfically says not to tow the car the way I was towing it...with
the front wheels on the dolly and the rear wheels rotating on the
road....Mazda recommneds towing via the front wheels on the road. Then I
remembered I had towed my 300ZX that way for 300 miles once, with no
apparent after effects so I said what the heck, kept going, and it is fine.
Soooo...the question is, why does the manual say what it says...??
