Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill. Mazda's discontinued a
plastic spoiler (it was discontinued here a couple of years ago). For all
but a small handful of cars (47 of them in 1997, for example), it's an
accessory. Mazda doesn't want to keep such a part in stock and raise
warehousing costs. Fair enough - I don't imagine the Rs get in enough
accidents to justify the part. Think of the OEM CD player for the 1990-93
cars - it's gone too. Even the VW bug had some accessories that became
impossible to get later, I'm sure. It's not as if Mazda's stopped
producing engines.
Mazda is a business. They've made a decision to drop a part, and they're
perfectly within their rights to do so. Moss Motors is lurking around,
hoping to pick up the equivalent of their MG business for the Miata - they
want to be the folks you go to when you need a new Miata spoiler. So let them.
