Coasting with the engine off is probably not a real smart idea, since
you lose power assist on the steering (if you have it) and vacuum
assist on the brakes, not to mention lack of on-demand acceleration to
jump out of the way of someone who hasn't seen you. It's also illegal
in most states, I believe.
Getting it towed home probably doesn't cost more than $50-100, or is
free if you've got AAA. IMHO, it's well worth it, compared with the
potential cost of not being able to avoid a collision.
