| Subject: | Noise from under the car |
| Date: | Wed, 1 Sep 1999 16:38:31 -0400 |
While I haven't spent a lot of time looking for the source of this noise
yet, just last night, when I applied the brakes, the car started making
a metallic scraping sound while under way. I pulled the car over and
opened the hood with the engine running and no noise from within the
engine bay....no pulleys rubbing against anything. I started to drive
away and the same noise occurred as though I were dragging some metallic
object under the car. Stopped the car again and looked
underneath...nope nuttin' there. Gradually, the sound becane less and
less until I stopped again. Same noise.
Must happen when I apply the brakes. It's not the screech one gets from
the wear warning things on the pads. It's a sound the car makes AFTER I
brake, and only while the car is rolling.
What could be hanging up? Calipers not releasing the pads from the
rotors? It's more the the sound of metal on metal.
Any ideas before I take it to a shop and put it on a lift?
Thanks for any suggestions.
