It won't do too much good to run the heater without moving the coolant.
Besides, with no alternator the battery won't like to run the heater fan.
Same with repeated re-starting.  How long will the battery last?

Repairing the car in the parking lot at work is an option, but the water
pump belt is "behind" the P/S and AC belts, so the job is twice as difficult
as you think.  And it is far and away easiest to get to the lower alternator
bolt from under the car, which suggests jacking it up.  So the job is three
times as difficult as you think.

If it was my project, I'd flat tow it home with a tow rope, front tie downs,
and a friend to help.
