Cam and ignition timing can do that. If it were a fuel or exhaust problem,
it should feel strong down low, but wouldn't like high revs. Plugs might
make it run rough or hard to start. There's an outside chance that the
engine ground has corroded. This can show the same sort of symptoms as bad
plug wires, and can even precipitate plug wire failure as the high tension
juice seeks a new ground. I'd check the ignition timing first, since it's
easy, then think about looking at the cam belt. Lets hope it hasn't somehow
developed the crank snout problem that afflicts 90-91s. Good luck -- keep us
