Sounds to me like a clutch throwout bearing. I think you have to drop the
transmission to replace it, but it's about a $25 part. Usually, when you
change the clutch, you change all the other stuff in there at the same time
(pilot bearing, throwout bearing, rear main seal.) Depending on
mileage/service history, you might do all the other stuff and the clutch
while you're in there. I got 100,000 miles from my factory clutch, we had a
club member get almost twice that from his, but if your car has high mileage
you might want to change the clutch while you're in there. Unless you find
this transmission-removal thing to be big fun.
