That's cold. Kidding or not. I'll clarify, just so everyone knows where I
stand.
I do print advertising work for a number of Miata vendors, that's true. I
do not get a commission from any of them, merely payment for the actual
work I've done. While I don't want to see any of them go out of business,
I only profit when they ask me to do work for them. Because of my work for
these vendors, I tend to know their products very well (I have the entire
Dealer Alt catalog in my head). I can then offer information on the
products, while I may not be able to for others - for example, I don't know
anything about Autopower roll bars while I have spent some time talking to
Tom of Hard Dog, seen the jigs and bars in production, and installed one of
his products. There's nothing stopping me from posting bad comments about
a product if I feel they're warranted. Check my comments on the old-style
FM big brakes from last summer, before Bill reworked them. I try to remain
objective.
My biggest affiliation is with The Dealer Alternative, whose print
advertising I have been doing for the last two years. I was a solid
customer and supporter of theirs beforehand, as you can find out from the
archives. I tend to work for those vendors that I frequent - I start as a
customer first, usually :) I do not get my parts for free.
Other clients to varying degrees include Hard Dog Fabrication, Finish Line
Performance and Puente Hills Mazda. I've also done volunteer work for a
few of the major "national" events and the M200 project and a couple of
reviews for Miata Magazine.
If anyone's got any questions, please feel free to contact me.
