Can't help you on finding a motor, but I have a
feeling an NA Miata with enough poop to beat a ponycar
will probably have a grenade motor.  Getting that kind
of power out of a small engine also will leave you
with a car that ain't the least bit streetable.

A noble pursuit, but not one I'd be willing to
undertake for a street vehicle.  Or are you planning
to make the car a dedicated racer?
