I probably shouldn't say anything, but as a former subscriber who now only
surfs the archives, I thought I'd throw in my 2 cents. I used to really
enjoy the list. There were (and still are) a lot of great people here. For
at least the last 5 or 6 months, though, it has gotten unbearable for me to
participate. Maybe it's me, but it's just not rewarding anymore, and as
much as I hate to say it, I think it's just because there's not that much
more to talk about. I first signed onto the list in September of 1996 and
it was awesome. There were lots of fun threads full of great information
and anecdotes. I made some great friends here, and got a lot of support
here when I made my cross-country trip to Laguna Seca and dropped in reports
from each stop on the way - up until the unfortunate climax of the trip that
found me stranded without a car 3000 miles from my home. Some of you folks
really saved my butt back then.
But now, two years later, I don't think I've seen an interesting thread with
new Miata information in a year or more, and the few times I've asked for
technical help I got little or no response. I think we've beat just about
every dead horse a hundred times. We can't even get a decent super/turbo
charger war going. ;-)
This is not an indictment of the list. Far from it. I think it's me who
has changed more than the list has. There are still some interesting
threads here, but they are all NMC. I think that the power list and the
forum have sapped some of the mental energy that used to exist here, though,
and there's a bit of inbreeding going on, resulting in some "clique-ish"
attitudes.
I've been fighting a major case of Miata-burnout though, so maybe it's just
me and there's nothing wrong with the list. I'm more interested in other
things these days.
I'll still be around in the archives, and I'm really going to try to post
something informative or at least interesting from time to time. Maybe the
list can get back to the way it was a couple years ago.
Sorry for boring you folks with my opinion, but as a 3+ year lister I wanted
to give it.
