I also have a Sony head unit with the same power ratings.  I had this unit in my
Miata for about a month, most of the time on the freway I couldn't hear it.
After the first month, it stopped working, my stereo store told me it was
because I had been pushing it too hard by turning it up almost all the way for
hours on end.  After that, I bought a 90watt Alpine amp for it, big, big
difference, it sounds much cleaner than the Sony head power and now I can hear
it.
