Most likely my deal was I had no heat shield... nor had the desire
to fab (or procure?) one. When I was running an Akimoto (K&N), I
had to run the highest grade I could get in the summer, and still
had to ease off with the right foot in stop-n-go traffic (when
underhood temps soar) - it would take a minute or so of 40mph+
driving to "clear out" under the hood of the high temps to where I
could flex my right ankle with impunity. I also understand the
susceptability (sp?) of Miatae to knock varies from car to car.
Mine could be particularly prone, and yours could not. Another
degree of freedom in trying to solve the equation...
