Ira,
I think its really because the vast majority of this list and the forum
readers/contributors already own a Miata that they are happy with.
Now I when I bought my car, I didn't get my first choice of color(BRG), but
I'm now completely satisfied with the car I have(Red). And to suggest that
this wasn't the right color for my car would feel somewhat like betraying a
trusted friend.
Obviously, I would be pleased Mazda made Miata's in some cool and funky
colors that I liked. But as I am, and, probably always will be, a
second-hand-car-buyer, I don't really have any pull with Mazda marketing
dept, and even if they did issue a car in exactly the color I wanted, I
couldn't afford it for at least five years, and even then, assuming the
Miata I have hasn't been written off in an accident, I will see no reason to
replace the one I have (which I love).
For people to be wanting a Miata with color XXX, its a suggestion that they
are un-happy with the one they have, and for the vast majority of us, I
suspect that just isn't the case.
But I must admit, the paint on my 10 year old car is not looking as good as
it once did, and I may repaint it oneday. It probably wont be red.......
Bright orange appeals, so does a bright green, or purple. The Chameleon
paints have appeal but I'll watch that and see how I feel about that in a
couple of years. I really like the Sunburst Yellow and I could possibly
replicate that... But in reality I'm male, and therefore need a woman to
tell me what color I really like :-)
Anyway, I think 21 replies in one day is actually pretty good.
Fletch.
P.S. You've got to acknowledge the realty that despite the vast numbers who
now purport to like Sunburst Yellow, only 1519 or so people were prepared to
stump up with the extra $300 when It was available. The yellow is not rare
because it was a limited edition, but simply because not many people wanted
it then. Perhaps Mazda North America got stung a little, and that is
reflected in their waiting a year to see how popular Evolution Gold/Orange
is in the rest of the world.
P.P.S. I'm 31. :-)
