Lemme try: XKE, XK-E, and E-type were all used in US advertising over the
history of the series. Purists insist on "E-Type" and then follow it by OTS
(open top sedan), FHC (fixed head coupe), or FHC 2+2. Nice piece of
history and a great drive by any name :)
