"Lick Your Miata 2000"

A fun run to Lick observatory on the summit of Mt.
Hamilton has been scheduled for February 12, 2000.
This fun run is well attended by those who live in
California's Bay Area as well as the Central Valley.
Mt. Hamilton overlooks the south bay and San Jose,
offering unparalleled views and scenery.

There will be two groups going to the summit. One
group, headed up by Nanda Holz and his Black and Tan
‘92 will be meeting at San Jose's Golfland at the
Jacklin exit off of highway 680. His group will leave
that meeting spot at 9:15 am. Tune your CB to channel
3 for updates and information during the run. If you
are from the Bay Area, email Nanda Holz at
Nandaholz@aol.com.

The other group, from the Central Valley, will meet at
the Patterson exit off of I-5, south of Tracy. This
group, headed by Eric Schwarzentraub and his ‘91
Silver will leave for the summit at 9:30 am. If you
are from the Central Valley, email Eric at
schwrzz@yahoo.com.

For those who are interested, after meeting at the
summit, the group will head down to "The Junction"
restaurant for lunch. Arrival time at the restaurant
will be around 12:30 pm. This is an entertaining
"dive bar" and you'll likely see hunters with a
freshly killed wild boar as equally as you will canyon
racers of both motorcycle and automotive inclinations.
I've seen Ferraris at this bar, Harleys and Ducattis.
The food is simple and tasty. A hamburger will cost
you a few bucks.

Lick observatory is in an extremely remote location.
Therefore, some precautions before you head to the top
will help make your trip more enjoyable. There are no
gas stations once you leave from Patterson, and those
coming from the Bay Area will not have a chance after
leaving from the Jacklin meeting location. So, first,
make sure you have a full tank of gas. Second, make
sure your spare is properly filled. The first
precaution happened to a fellow Miata driver. The
second, happened to me as I had a flat tire once
heading for the top.

This fun run will be weather dependent. It can get
cold enough to snow at the summit, so pay attention to
the weather forecasts. If it is raining and cold this
run will be rescheduled. Otherwise, on a crisp and
clear or partly cloudy mid-February day, this road is
without parallel. However, never have I had to cancel
this drive due to weather.

Nanda and I hope to see you. If you have questions,
or are interested and haven't made contact yet, please
let one of us know.
