I use Illuminas with the stock springs and sways on my '93 and I think it is
an excellent setup. On Miata runs, I never have any trouble keeping up with
anybody even in the most demanding situations. I like the stock springs
because they give me a lot of wheel travel on those roads with lots of dips
and yees and yaws (yees and yaws??? LOL!!!!) =) Well you know, very uneven
irregular surfaces that pitch to the left and right and up and down,... The
REALLY FUN roads!! We seem to have a lot of them around here. =) I set my
Illumines on 5 (firmest) and the suspension swallows up the dips and flips
with great aplomb. I have watched a lot of the lowered cars bob and slam on
these roads, so I don't think I'll be changing from my stock springs until
someone comes out with a progressive performance spring that keeps the Miata
at close to the stock height, allowing for the same amount of wheel travel.
That's just been my observation on the roads that "I" have to drive and play
on. For daily use, I just set the Illuminas on 1 or 2, depending on how I
feel. On 1 the ride is much more "plush" than the stock shocks were and at
the same time they handle far better than the stock shocks ever thought of
handling. I just purchased a set of JR sways to put on. Just haven't had
the time to do it yet but I'm pretty sure I'll be very happy with the
combination.
