" I don't plan to drive my miata in any snow, but since my miata is my =
only car, what might happen if I drive with RE-71's in below freezing =
temps?? Bad idea? BTW, I wouldn't be doing any high performance =
maneuvers at those temps."
IMHO in the above scenario you will be ok. I say this based on my =
experience with several miatas and 100K miles over the past 10+ years in =
NYC where we do have snow and sub freezing temps. In winter I have =
used:=20
all-seasons (usually D60A2) ok in cold; so-so in light snow; not so hot =
in over 3 inches of snow.
dedicated winter tires (Pirelli W190) great in light snow, not at all =
bad in deep snow; at least until you start to plow .
summer tires; RE-71 in both 205/50-15 and currently on my 95R in =
195/55-14. In the cold just take it easy and look out for ice. In the =
snow forget it. About a month ago I came out of the office to find an =
unexpected snow fall starting with about 1/2 inch on the ground. Where =
it was not salted, hence melted I barely made it, as you get almost zero =
traction/braking/steering (no fun at all). Upon reaching the parkways =
where the salt left the roads wet, it was ok, again if you take it easy. =
=20
Good luck - YMMV
