Hi Gang, Tue. June 24, 1997 Second Installment: Note - all times in EDT I had another great day today. I left the Motel in Quinter, KS at 6:45 a.m. and arrived in St. George, UT at 8:45 p.m. after covering another 925 miles. It should be about 550 miles to Buellton, CA. The weather started off cloudy, but the skies cleared and there were blue skies and little white fluffy clouds all the way into southwest Utah. I started off with the top up but put it down at a gas stop in Glenwood Springs, CO. Traveling through the Rock Mountains with the top down was great. The air was clear and cool and there is still snow near the summits. After passing through the Eisenhower tunnel (at 11,013 ft. above sea level) which is quite close to the continental divide, I stopped and, just to prove I can be as silly as anyone else, popped the top of a can of Caffeine Free Diet Pepsi and christened my trusty Black & Red ‘93 LE - Drifter. Drifter and I spent most of the rest of today’s leg of the trip west bound on I-70 ogling some of the most spectacular scenery in the country. The last 126 miles were on I-15 and the scenery there was great too. There was one stretch between Green River and Salina, Utah where we went 106 miles with no services available. When I saw the sign which warned of this situation I estimated that we could make it with at least a gallon of fuel to spare. It took 10.67 gallons of gas at Salina. (Sure glad I didn’t screw that up.) I originally planned to spend tomorrow night in Palmdale, CA, but since I’m way ahead of my original schedule, I’ll probably head for Buellton. I couldn’t send out the first installment last night; I hope I have better luck tonight. Bill Bowser & Drifter St. George, Utah
