Subject: Cooling Fan Problem

Greetings fellow miata listers,

The last two days on my return home, both warm days, the cooling fan has 

kicked in once I got off the freeway and into stop and go traffic. The 

fan felt rough when it came on, and a mile or so later I started getting 

noise from the fan blades hitting the housing. I first thought the blade 

was too loose so I tried to tighten the bolt in the fan after work but 

the same thing happened today. Now I'm thinking the fan moter is bad and 

the fan is hitting the housing because its not rotating fast enough. No 

overheating yet since I don't drive very far once the fan kicks in. Has 

anyone else had problems with the cooling fan/motor? I'm thinking that I 

may have to replace the motor. Its kind of hard to believe the motor 

could have gone bad at 12K miles. Thanks in advance for any assistance 

and advice.
