Weather has been cold, wet and windy for the past two weeks and the weatherman promises more of the same. Only on my first day off and I was already bored.... So I decided to give ol' Little Red Rooster some attention......:-) 1) Replaced some weird NGK pug wires with new NGK plug wires ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -- For the last 6 weeks I felt LRR has lost some of it's bite, especially the first blip of the throttle wasn't that responsive any more. Maybe I had grown accustomed to the JCAI and the Borla cat-back ? Maybe time to move on to something more powerful ??? Well I changed the plugs, no result. A few weeks later I cleaned my injectors, same old same old...Then I thought about changing the plug wires. The stock ones died and were replaced by a local Mazda garage at 40Kmiles with blue NGK's. Now at 80K miles I though they could be the culprit. Armed with the Shop manual and Moss-ordered plug wires I took on the job. To my amazement the old NGK's were NOT placed in the same order as described in the manual...Well I decided to go with the book and attach my new ones according to the diagram, first I replaced the shortest wire...HEY HANG ON..there was no shortest plugwire to replace....there was one long one, one a little less long and TWO medium ones. On closer inspection they looked a bit different from the new ones I was holding....Aaaaaaarhg I had been driving with OTHER NGK's than the Miata ones for over 3 years.....deep inside my engine the ghost of a Mazda 626 lurked.... So I installed the new ones, fired the engine up and went for a drive, the slight hesitation was gone...lets' hope THESE NGK's last a little bit longer than 40K.... part two will feature Dri-washing the car and black-chroming the interior...
