From: Jeff Anderson <janderso@erols.com> Subject: Wires to the 97's Power Antenna Plug? Date: Mon, 1 Sep 1997 23:22:37 +0000
Would someone please tell me if the power connector plug for the STO's power antenna has 4 or 2 wires installed in the 4 position plug coming from the car? This plug has positions for 4 pins, is cubed shape, and supplies up/down power to the power antenna. The plug on the power antenna side of the connection likely has 4, but I'd like to know how many wires are on the car-side of that plug. This plug should be present in the trunk in the area below the base of the antenna, even if the power antenna is not installed. I'd also like to know if the 97 non-M editions have 4 or 2 wires in the car-side of that plug. I know that the 97M edition only has two. This is a change from all previous years. In previous years both sides of this plug connection had 4 wires. For installation of antenna splitters in Miatas with a power antenna I supply a wire clamp that ties 2 of the 4 wires together so the power antenna only operates with the key switch. This prevents the power antenna from retracting when the radio is turned off, or when a tape or CD is played. I recently learned that the 97M edition's radio provides more of the control signals and its power antenna connector from the car only has 2 wires. The wire needed to be clamped to another wire going to that plug is not present in the 97M, and I'm trying to find out if this change was only for the 97M, or if it's a change for all 97 Miatas.
