Rather than get a true R and upgrade the wheels and suspension, I could get a base 1.8 for much cheaper then add the wheels and suspension myself. Result: quasi-R (like Quasimodo). It would lack the Torsen diff, but I wouldn't be wasting/discarding expensive suspension bits and wheels. The net cost should be less. How much would it cost to buy a used Torsen diff and how tough would it be to install? (I know this is an old thread but I've forgotten what the answer is.) And, did the base '94 come with the extra suspension bracing in front/back? I know Mazda dropped it in later-year base models, but not in '94, methinks. Last, I would want a/c but NOT power steering. Did any of the manual steering base models come with a/c? Thanks! -- Eric Amador, L.A. Team Miataless
