Gang, You've (presumably) all read Fletch's comments about the club run. It really was great fun, and I wanted to add some observations of my own. >> Then it was state-highway 25A across the back of the Coromandel ranges Can I just point out that a state-highway in New Zealand would actually be a back road in any other country. Just one lane going each way and twisting like crazy up the hills. :-)) One of the best parts for me, though, was examining everyone elses cars. Most of the cars were brought in secondhand from Japan, so most cars had at least one unusual aftermarket item :-). Very interesting, but if you see something that you like, you can't just go out and buy it :-( The colours represented were White, Laguna blue, Mariner blue, Satelite blue, Red, Merlot, Yellow, Silver, Black and the most represented colour British Racing Green. Most of the BRGs had the normal sized/shaped chrome mirrors, very cool! Perhaps these were fitted as standard on the BRGs in Japan at some point? I finally met up with a fellow Scot that I'd spoken to on the phone a few times. His car was pretty unusual. It was Silver with a single thick blue stripe, but the most unusual thing was that everything in his car was spotless. His engine was polished to a chrome look and he had metal sleeves over all hoses. The brace bar was a Mazspeed one which looked quite substantial and was shaped like squashed two inch chrome pipe. Underneath the car, he had painted everything in black, except the diff which was painted silver. Made the car look brand new (It was a 94). He'd got a second pipe attached to the muffler exit pipe which bent back and came out on the other side of the car to make to give the twin exhaust look. He had also had the two 4 inch exhaust tips engraved with MAZSPEED. The engraving made them look quite classy. (his original tip was a Mazspeed which was engraved in this way). There was a very dark metallic blue MX5 (almost looked black, except in direct sunlight, could be the same colour as the STO?), it had factory suade seats with seperate headrests. There were also cars with Aluminium Gear shift surrounds, Carbon Fibre dash kits, Chrome roll bars (single, single hooped and twin hooped) etc etc......... No teddy bear wheels though!! All this to look at, plus good weather,33 Miatas, winding roads, a car collection and a winery. Wow, so much to do, so little time. PS According to the car collection owner the MG club went to see his car collection last year. Apparently only four people turned up. Fletch and I wondered if they had actually left Auckland with only two cars or if they had left with 30 odd cars like us, but the rest had broken down on the way ;-) Cheers Charles Lynch 91 Silver (The fastest colour) Auckland, New Zealand.
