Where can you hand wash in the middle of winter? <snip> Dear Hank: I live in downtown Chicago and have the same problem you do. I looked for a safe and convenient commercial car wash that would let me wash my own car. I have been unable to find one. I live in a condo and we have a hand car wash service in the building but like many on this List, only I get to wash my car. I find it therapeutic. This summer I even found myself suggesting frequently to my wife that we go visit her mother in Milwaukee just so that I could wash the car on her front lawn! Sick, sick, sick... We all are. Anyways, because my building will not allow me to use their car wash facility, I devised the following technique for washing my car IN my building, late at night when no one is around. I bought one of those large plastic containers that have a pump so that you can pressurize the liquid inside the container. The container has a wand from which a fine spray comes out. I think these containers are used for spreading lawn chemicals or something like that. I bought it at the Home Depot. I use this pressurized container and a bucket filled with some mild soap to wash and rinse my car. It really works. One of my neighbors who owns a Porsche and feels about his car the same way we feel about ours showed me how to do this. The puddle left behind is quite minimal. SO, if you park your car in a garage maybe this will work for you too. Ciao, Jon, '97 M, Chicago.
